Safety Training - course descriptions
All our training seminars begin with an explanation of how Bill C-45 and the subsequent changes in provincial legislation have affected the responsibilities of employers, supervisors and workers. It is stressed that workers now carry financial liability for failure to comply with WorksafeBC OH&S Regulations.
General Construction Safety: Designed for entry-level workers and for seasoned workers in need of refreshing, basic fundamentals of safety in the construction industry are explained. Important topics discussed are worker’s rights and responsibilities, as well as Worksafe BC regulations covering personal protective equipment, WHMIS, & Fall Protection. Electrical safety and the assured grounding are followed by a typical site safety orientation touching on over 40 safety and safe work procedure related topics.
Duration: Approximately 3 hours.
Fall Protection: Required by WorksafeBC for all workers at risk of falling from a height of 10 feet (3 meters). Emphasis is placed on the worker’s responsibility to recognize the hazards associated with working at heights. A short introductory video outlines the basics of fall protection, leading workers into the more specific topics. We cover WorksafeBC fall protection regulations and penalties, the worker’s legal responsibilities, the hierarchy of fall protection, typical equipment, different types of fall protection systems, anchor points, fall protection plans, proper fit and inspection of equipment, horizontal and vertical lifelines, rope grabs, etc.

This introductory course from a construction perspective teaches participants about the dangers of controlled products, regulations, the WHMIS classification process, supplier and workplace labels and material safety data sheets. A four-part video accompanies the written material to assist workers in understanding the fundamentals of this federal program. Group discussions allow participants to share workplace examples and lessons learned the hard way.
