Consulting Services
REAL EXPERIENCE
Having spent more than 20 years working in the building trades as a heavy equipment operator and a carpenter, Ian Sparshu has real world experience to share with workers and employers. Realistic solutions combining production needs with safe work procedures; this is the process used to overcome obstacles and reduce workplace injuries.
NOT JUST CONSTRUCTION
Not restricted to the construction industry, Sparshu Construction Safety provides safety training and consulting services to municipal works divisions, school boards, fire departments and the manufacturing industry. Safety training seminars can be delivered as pre-designed presentations. We also combine and custom prepare safety training seminars and safety programs for hospitality, healthcare and retail, all specifically for each individual organization.
CSA FALL PROTECTION TRAINER/EXPERT
As well as a certified safety trainer (expert) in Fall Protection, Ian Sparshu is also a certified competent inspector of Fall Protection equipment. Many jurisdictions including BC require regular inspection of fall protection equipment by a competent person.
SAFETY PROGRAMS
The development of a safety program is the very best step your company can take towards reducing injuries, lost time, time loss claims and meeting compliance with WorksafeBC Regulations. We work with the management and worker representatives to develop an effective safety program that has the ability to grow and adapt as the business does. Safe work procedures are developed with input directly from the workforce. Gaps in safety training are identified, and solutions are found to strengthen the company’s posture with regard to due diligence.
SAFETY SUPERVISOR TRAINING
Safety training is not just for workers. On an individual basis, we mentor, mould and develop your chosen workers into trusted and competent safety supervisors. The combination of multiple skills required for the safety supervisor’s position is varied and many can be learned. Basic paperwork, the collection of “due diligence” documents and safety training in the form of site safety orientations is where we start. Skills needed to perform site safety inspections, hazard identification/control, effective communication and interpersonal skills are improved through the implementation of proven techniques. Watch for our Construction Safety Supervisor course coming in 2008
SITE SAFETY INSPECTIONS
A comprehensive, third party safety inspection is an excellent way to measure the performance of your existing systems and personnel without risking written orders or financial penalty assessment. Directed by you and your needs, we can perform a rigorous site safety inspection, categorizing identified hazards and unsafe work procedures, and setting out the priorities for corrective action. We can also analyze site paperwork systems and record methods for compliance with the OH&S Regulations. By identifying gaps in your existing systems, together we can improve overall site safety, reducing occurrences of injury, time loss and expensive claims.
WORKER LOYALTY & RETENTION
In today’s extremely tight labour market, attracting and keeping productive, qualified workers can be more challenging than the actual business you are in. Retaining the good workers that already perform well in your organization is essential to growth, since many employers report an attrition rate as high as 20 workers recycled to every good new worker found suitable and kept for the job.
Providing a safe work environment is the law; having a safe, productive, stable and content workforce is the goal. Happy, content workers with the opportunity for advancement are more productive. They lose fewer hours to injury and illness. They are also better team players, more likely to step up when over-time and extra effort is required.
Our techniques for improving safety at your workplace have several side effects: they improve existing worker morale, they just happen to increase production and they help attract potential qualified workers when everyone finds out what a fabulous employer you are.
